Café Matisse, opened in 1994 on Park Avenue in Rutherford, is situated in a historic building that was originally a horse and buggy firehouse. This restaurant has evolved over the years to its current design with 45 seats in a Henri Matisse inspired dining room, and an enchanting European Garden patio providing an additional 25 seats for seasonal al fresco dining. A new interior expansion of the front room is now underway that will add new dining accommodations for parties up to 30 people in time for summer. A simply magical space, Café Matisse’s colorful impressionist-style paintings, and chandeliers create a playful, inviting atmosphere of simple elegance. The European style garden also adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the dining experience. The restaurant’s stunning atmosphere makes it the perfect place to celebrate special occasions and host private events. Café Matisse, a “BYOB” restaurant, is open for dinner six days per week and offers a “Matisse Plates” Chef’s Grazing Menu presented in three, four or five courses. The menu is frequently updated to offer you the finest quality local and seasonal ingredients. All food is prepared fresh for each evening’s reservations.
