Ross Matheson and his wife Mary Beth opened Captain Charlie’s Original Reef Grill in 1989, only two years after moving to the Juno Beach area of Florida from Toronto, where he owned and operated the successful Duchess of Markham. It did not take long for Matheson to realize the untapped potential for a restaurant in the Juno Beach area. Says Ross, “This area is one of the biggest fruit and vegetable producers in the country, and with an ocean full of fish outside your back door, the food here should be spectacular.” And once you’ve experienced Captain Charlie’s, you’ll know it is. But fine food is only part of what makes Captain Charlie’s that special place to dine. The wine list and Ross’s reasonable pricing will be a pleasant surprise for first-time patrons.
