Nothing says cozy like dinner by the fireplace, and at Prairie Fire in Coolidge Corner the whole neighborhood is invited. Offering wood-fired pizzas and homemade pasta alongside local craft beer and craftier cocktails, this rustic roost has everything you need to curl up and stay awhile. With an entire wall devoted to the wood-burning oven, you’d better believe Prairie Fire is all about that char. But it isn’t just pizza going in the fire—beyond their selection of pies (featuring house-fermented dough), they’ve got a raw bar, shareable snacks, and an entire section of the menu devoted to seasonal veggies. Pasta is made fresh in-house, and if you’re not feeling the carbs there are plenty of creative and culinary meat- and veggie-options to keep everyone satisfied. Sparsely decorated, the Prairie Fire team lets the food do the talking. The centerpiece is, unsurprisingly, a massive wood-fire oven with an imposing iron door, framed by stacks of wood. The long wood bar is unadorned, meaning there’s nothing blocking your view of the fire (and your dinner coming out of it) from anywhere in the restaurant. The walls are tan and charcoal grey, with blonde wood stools lining the bar and cozy booths by the window, which means the most colorful thing in the room will be on your plate or in your glass.
